Laser trimming of excess gum tissue can eliminate “gummy smiles”
Our CO2 laser is the ideal way to carefully trim and shape gum tissue to reveal the beautiful teeth underneath. Patients report minimal pain following the procedure and rapid healing.
What causes gingival enlargement?
Some times, the gum tissue just naturally covers a portion of the tooth. Other times, poor oral health and plaque buildup can lead to inflammation and gingival overgrowth (called gingival hyperplasia). Also some can cause enlarged gum tissue such as:
- Anticonvulsants (phenytoin, phenobarbital, lamotrigine, vigabatrin, ethosuximide, topiramate, and primidone)
- Antihypertensives (calcium channel blockers such as nifedipine, amlodipine, and verapamil)
- Immunosuppressant (cyclosporine)
Whatever the cause, we can get you back to normal healthy looking gums and teeth quickly and with little discomfort
